From a review by Mark Amery:
After opening night, I had to get hold a copy of the script for "The Day Room". This was outstanding contemporary theatre done justice by an excellent Auckland crew. Director Bruce Sheridan boasted that every actor he asked had said yes after reading the script, further proof that Auckland had very luckily been thrown a wild ball to play out on its quiet theatrical court.
It's the sort of play that demands its audience go away and ponder its themes, and for academics to write papers. In other words, there is too much to write and talk about. It left theatregoers who like intelligent, meaty comedy elated with what they had to work through. More please--this is exactly what Auckland theatre needs.
